The first Guangzhou International Vascular Biology Conference, organized by Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center, Sun Yat-sen University (ZOC) and State Key Laboratory (SKLO), was hold in Zhujiang New Town Branch of ZOC and SKLO on June 25, 2017. The conference was co-chaired by Professor Yizhi Liu (ZOC/SKLO), Professor Xuri Li (ZOC/SKLO), and Professor Napoleon Ferrara (UCSD). Ten speakers from the U.S., Hong Kong and other domestic regions have given presentations over the various topics in Vascular Biology. More than 200 audiences attended the conference. As the Director of ZOC and SKLO, Professor Liu congratulated the audience on the opening of the conference. He particularly mentioned that “Seeing Professor Ferrara and other experts’ arrival reminds me of the old days when the patients with diabetic retinopathy and AMD lost their eye sights due to lack of treatments. It is your great work and contributions in Vascular Biology that change the therapy of many eye diseases and save the patients’ visions.” During the conference, the speakers shared their latest work with the audience, answered the questions and had intelligent discussions. The topics and the speakers are listed as below:

Novel insights in the regulation of angiogenesis” by Napoleone Ferrara, University of California, San Diego, USA;

Conbercept: from lab to bed” by Michael Xu, Innovent Biologics, Inc.;

Novel roles of VEGF-B in angiogenesis” by Xuri Li, the Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center (ZOC), Sun Yat-Sen University;
