On February 21st, 2019, Dr. Michael Mittelman, the President and Dr. Melissa Vitek, Education Dean of Salus University USA’, visited Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center (ZOC)，Sun Yat-sen University to discuss cooperation and exchange.

On behalf of ZOC, Professor Liu Yizhi, the Director of the Center extended a warm welcome to the guests. Professors Zhuo Yehong, Zheng Danying, and Liang Lingyi, as well as other teaching experts, together with junior doctors participated in the exchange meeting.

Dr Mittelman expanded on Salus University’s experience during the past 100 years and their remarkable achievements in the field of Optometry. Professor Zhuo Yehong spoke about education and training of undergraduate and postgraduate students in Ophthalmology and Optometry in both China and the United States and suggested that reciprocal exchange of students for study and teaching might be adopted in the future.

Professor Zhuo's speech struck a chord with Dr Mittelman and the other participants. It was agreed that although we are in different countries and different medical environments, we share the same hope for training doctors and optometrists.

Dr Vitek, briefly introduced a few training programs offered by Salus University for overseas students. The representative doctors all showed great interest.

Professor Zheng Danying said that the Center would seek more opportunities for promising junior doctors and would integrate various resources and strive to build a high-quality platform for internationalization in the future. It is hoped that the two sides will seek further cooperation in the field of Optometry training as well as in the area of scientific research.
