Ophthalmic Engineering Research Center Achieved Outstanding Result in China Medical Device Design and Entrepreneurship Competition

The 2nd China Medical Device Design and Entrepreneurship Competition was held in Weihai, Shandong Province, on August 6th -7th 2019. The project "Ophthalmic Multimodal Imaging and Artificial Intelligence Diagnosis System" of the team led by Professor Jin Yuan from the Ophthalmic Engineering Research Center ZOC ranked in the top ten of the Opto-electrical group and won an "Excellence Award" through a series of selections and the final live demonstration defense among more than 600 teams across the country. Moreover, they ranked in the top place among all the college participants.
China Medical Devices Design and Entrepreneurship Competition is a national competition in the field of medical devices. It is initiated by the Division of Social Development Technology under the Ministry of Science and Technology of China and is jointly guided and approved by China National Center for Biotechnology Development. Its purpose is to stimulate the innovation vitality of enterprises and scientific researchers, strengthen the connection between clinical application innovation and capital, deepen the cooperation in all aspects of medical device industry, thereby promoting the continuous innovation and development of China's medical device industry.
The “Ophthalmic Multimodal Imaging and Artificial Intelligence Diagnosis System” project of ZOC is the output of the National Key R&D Program led by Professor Jin Yuan. The system integrates multiple ophthalmic imaging modalities like digital slit-lamp, high-resolution OCT and ocular surface microvascular imaging system, as well as corresponding image analysis software and an artificial intelligence-assisted diagnostic system. The system has been clinically validated in many hospitals, providing a new diagnostic platform and application model for ophthalmic diseases diagnosis.
Under the background of "Healthy China" and "Great Health Industry", the participate of the Ophthalmic Engineering Research Center in China Medical Device Design and Entrepreneurship Competition and their achievement would have important demonstration significance and clinical application prospects for promoting the leap-forward development of the core technology and equipment for ophthalmic diseases diagnosis and treatment in China.
