Department of Preventive Ophthalmology is part of Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center, Sun Yat-sen University. Established in 1983, Department of Preventive Ophthalmology is dedicated to address the need of population-based epidemiological research, to improve the service for people in rural setting and public health approaches to the prevention of preventable blindness in the poorest region in China.    

The activities of Department of Preventive Ophthalmology include county-level ophthalmic staff training, epidemiological research, image grading service and statistics consultation.   

Department of Preventive Ophthalmology is supported by Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center, Sun Yat-sen University, research grants, NGO grants.   

The Division faculty includes experts on ophthalmology, public health and statistics worldwide.
